Privacy policy
FORM45 is a training app: exercise guides, programs, routines, and a workout log. Your training stays on your phone. FORM45 counts how the app is used, without knowing who you are. Only if you join Team, to train with buddies or a coach, does FORM45 send us anything about you, and then only what Team needs.
- No account needed to train. Accounts are only for Team, and use Sign in with Apple.
- No ads today, and no tracking across other apps or websites.
- FORM45 counts how the app is used, never who you are. You can turn that off.
- We don't sell information about you, and we don't use your training, body details, or weigh-ins for advertising.
Who we are
FORM45 is made by Side Hat Ventures LLC. When this policy says "we", it means us.
What stays on your phone
Everything you create in FORM45 is stored on your device: saved exercises, your active program and its check-offs, your routines, and your workout history, including reps, seconds, weights, and notes. So are your settings, your weekly goal, and your reminders. The exercise guides and illustrations are built into the app and work offline.
If you take the plan quiz or set nutrition targets, your answers stay on your device too: your sex, age, height, weight, body fat if you enter it, whether you are pregnant or breastfeeding, how active you are, and your goal. So do your calorie and protein targets and every weigh-in you log. FORM45 works the targets out on your device.
Unless you join Team, none of this is sent to us or to anyone else. With Team, your finished workouts are sent, as described below. Body details, nutrition targets, and weigh-ins are not sent anywhere, with or without Team.
If your phone backs up its apps, for example to your personal cloud backup, that copy is handled by your device's backup service under its own terms. Deleting the app removes FORM45's data from the device. If you joined Team, delete your account in the app first to remove your Team data as well.
Usage numbers
FORM45 counts how the app is used, so we can see how many people use it and which parts matter. It counts these, each at most once a day:
- You opened the app.
- You finished a workout.
- You started a program.
- You finished the plan quiz.
- You saved a routine.
- You shared a workout or a routine.
Each count carries a random number your device makes for this purpose only, so that one device isn't counted twice. It isn't tied to your name, your Team account, or anything else about you. It is scrambled before it leaves your device and again when it arrives, so neither we nor the service that receives it can work back to your device. A count also carries the time, your device's model, its system version, the FORM45 version, and the language the app is shown in. That is all.
A count does not say which workout, program, routine, or exercise. It does not include your sets, reps, weights, notes, body details, quiz answers, nutrition targets, weigh-ins, or anything from Team.
Counting starts the first time you open the app, and the first screen says so. Counts are sent when you are online. They go to an analytics service we use. Its servers are in the European Union, and it doesn't store your IP address. We keep the counts for as long as they help us understand how FORM45 is doing. Because nothing in them says who you are, we can't pick yours out afterward.
You can turn this off in Profile with "Share usage numbers". Turning it off also deletes the random number, and any counts waiting to be sent, from your device.
How FORM45 makes money
FORM45 is free, and today it makes no money. It has no ads and nothing to buy.
We want FORM45 to pay for itself, so that will change. We haven't decided exactly how. It may include:
- Ads in the app.
- Paid features, such as charging for coaching or for coach tools.
- Sharing totals, such as how many people use FORM45. Totals don't show who anyone is.
Before any of this starts, we will update this policy to say what changes and who else is involved, and tell you in the app. We will ask your permission wherever the law or Apple's rules call for it. A change applies only to information collected after it, unless you agree otherwise.
Whatever we add, we won't use your training, body details, or weigh-ins for advertising, and we won't sell them.
Team, only if you join
Team is optional. It lets you train with up to five buddies and one coach, or coach clients of your own. Joining means signing in with Apple, and from then on FORM45 sends our backend what Team needs:
- Your account. The identifier Sign in with Apple gives FORM45, and the display name you choose. If you coach, the short bio you write. FORM45 does not ask Apple for your name or email address.
- Your workouts. Your finished workouts from the last 90 days when you join, and each workout you finish after that. For each one, a summary (workout name, date, duration, sets, exercises, and the effort rating you give it out of 10) and the full log (exercises, sets, reps, weights, and notes).
- Messages. What you send in Team chats, including high-fives and nudges, and when you last read each chat so the app can show what's new.
- Coaching. Routines coaches assign and form tips they write on exercises.
- Invites. The invite codes you create, what kind they are, and when they expire or are used.
- Notifications. If you allow notifications, a push notification token for your device, so FORM45 can tell you about Team activity such as new messages.
- Blocks and reports. Who you block, and any report you make, including your reason, a copy of the reported message, and up to 20 of that person's recent messages to you.
Using Team also means agreeing to the community rules in the terms of use.
Who sees what
- Nobody, until an invite is accepted. You are connected to someone only when one of you shares an invite and the other accepts it. Until then, no one else can see anything about you.
- Your buddies see your display name and your workout summaries: the days you trained, workout names, sets, time, and effort. They don't see your weights or notes.
- Your coach sees your display name, your workout summaries, and your full workout log, including weights and notes, and can send you messages, routines, and form tips.
- If you coach, your clients see your display name and bio. They don't see your workouts.
- Chats are visible only to the two people in them.
- We access Team data only to run and secure the service, to review reports, or when the law requires it.
Where Team data is kept
Team data is stored with our backend hosting provider, which processes it only to provide the service to us. It travels over encrypted connections. We keep it while you use Team, until you delete it as described below. Our backend keeps at most your 500 most recent workouts.
Ending a link and deleting your account
- End a link with a buddy or coach at any time, from either side. The chat for that link disappears for both of you, and ending a coaching link removes the routines and form tips that coach wrote just for you. The chat's messages are kept for 30 days where neither of you can read them, so that a report can still be looked into, and are then deleted. For those 30 days, each of you can also see the other's name under Recently ended in your Team profile, to report or block them.
- Block someone to end every link with them. They cannot connect with you again unless you unblock them.
- Report a person or a message from the app. Reports come to us for review.
- Delete your account in the app at any time. This deletes your Team data from our backend: your profile, workouts, links and their chats, including the messages kept from ended links, high-fives, invites, the routines and tips you wrote, blocks, and device tokens. The workouts on your phone stay there.
Reports are kept after an account is deleted so we can enforce our rules. Deleted data can also remain in our hosting provider's routine backups for a limited time before those backups expire.
Reminders and notifications
Workout, weigh-in, and weekly recap reminders are off until you turn them on in the app. They are made on your device, and nothing about them is sent to us. Team notifications, such as a new message, are different: they use the push notification token described above and are delivered by Apple.
Sharing, only when you choose
Outside Team, you decide when your training leaves the app:
- Workout graphics. When you share a finished workout, FORM45 makes an image from that session and opens your phone's share sheet. It includes completed sets, exercises, and reps or timed seconds, and optionally the date and elapsed time. Notes and individual weights are not included. Where it goes next is up to you and the app you pick.
- Routines. Sharing a routine creates a readable description and a routine file with its name, exercises, sets, rep or time goals, rest, and notes. It does not include your workout history or logged weights.
- Saving to Photos. If you choose to save a workout graphic, FORM45 asks for permission to add images to your photo library. It uses that permission only to save the card you picked, and it cannot read your existing photos.
Who else gets information
We don't sell information about you, and we don't share it for advertising. These are the only others involved:
- The analytics service that receives the usage numbers described above.
- Our backend hosting provider, which stores Team data only to provide the service to us.
- Apple, which runs Sign in with Apple and delivers Team notifications to your device.
- The company that hosts form45.com, as described under This website.
- The authorities, when the law requires it. Without Team, all we could hand over is usage numbers that don't say who anyone is.
- A new owner, if FORM45 is ever sold or merged into another company. What we hold would go with it, under this policy.
Your choices and rights
In the app, you can turn off usage numbers, turn each reminder on or off, delete weigh-ins and nutrition data, end a Team link, block or report someone, and delete your Team account. Deleting the app removes everything FORM45 stored on that device.
You can also write to us to ask what we hold about you, to get a copy of it, or to have it corrected or deleted. If you never joined Team, the answer is nothing: we have no account for you and no way to look you up.
If you live in California: we don't sell or share personal information, as California law defines those words.
If you live in the European Union or the United Kingdom: we count usage because we have a legitimate interest in knowing how FORM45 is used, and you can object by turning it off. We handle your Team data, including your workouts, because you chose to join Team and share them, and you can take that choice back at any time by deleting your account. You also have the right to complain to your data protection authority.
Children
FORM45 is not directed at children under 13, Team is not for them, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has joined Team, email us and we will delete the account.
This website
form45.com is a plain website. It sets no cookies and runs no analytics or advertising. Like any website, the company that hosts it receives standard request information, such as your IP address, browser type, and the pages requested, to deliver the site and keep it secure. We do not use that information to identify you. An invite page reads the code from its link in your browser to show it to you, and does not send it anywhere.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will update it here, change the date at the top, and tell you in the app before the change takes effect.
